 Southeys Jan 2010 Newsletter

New Year Greetings from the Southeys Manukans!

Hello everybody, and belated New Year Greetings from the Southeys Manukans!
A new year, some new challenges no doubt, but an exciting year for all South Africans with the World Cup now only a few months away.
So what’s been happening since you last heard from us? Well of course, Christmas and New Year came and went, seemingly in a flash, but thank you to everyone for making 2009 such a wonderful year for us.

Through your continued support and custom, we are able to continue our support for a number of worthwhile causes in our neighbourhood. A nearby home benefits from all our glass and paper recycling, the Hospice collection cans, donations to various fund-raising efforts, all as a result of your on-going custom. We are truly blessed, and will continue to assist local charities to the best of our abilities.

Meet the Winemaker Evening – Weds 27th January

Yes, our first Meet-the-Winemaker dinner for 2010 is next Wednesday and features Conrad Vlok presenting STRANDVELD and FIRST SIGHTING wines.

This farm is situated in the southern-most and windswept region of Cape Agulhas.
Despite the bleak landscape, or perhaps because of it, Conrad is producing 2 ranges of quality wines under both labels. The Strandveld range consists of Sauvignon Blanc (4*), Syrah, and Adamastor, a sauvignon-semillon blend.

These last 2 both achieved 4 ½* in Platter 2010.

The First Sighting range consists of Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, and a blend of Chardonnay-Semillon-Viognier, all of which achieved 3 ½ or 4 * in Platter.

We are looking forward to a great tasting, so please book your seats as soon as possible, The evening costs R155pp incl service fee, and starts at 6.30 for 7.00pm. Booking is essential. Tel 087 808 2013 or 021 851 6060

In the Wine Shop

The 2009 harvest has been rated as the best this decade, especially for Sauvignon Blancs, and we have a wide range available. Especially good value are Cape Atlantic (4* - R39), Iona Sophie Te’Blanche (R49), MAN Vintners (R42), Havanna Hills (5* - R69)

We have good stocks of Kleine Zalze Family Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2009, and their 2 Chenin Blancs which have just done so well at the Chenin Blanc Challenge, the Cellar Selection which was the overall winner, and the Bush Vines which was selected as Best Value.
