Manuka Tokai Makes Music, recipe for home and more

Manuka makes Music
We have successfully engaged the services of several up and coming local artists who are playing at Manuka Tokai to increase their public exposure. This Saturday night from 7.30 pm Phoenix Kayode will be playing light back ground music while you drink and/or dine with us. Be sure to book your table, NO cover charge – call Riaan 021 701 9777. For more event details click HERE.

Corporate Functions
We are well known for hosting stunning wine tasting dinners, so if your company needs a little fun, email tony@manuka.co.za for more information. From relaxed and fun pizza evenings with 7 to 8 wines tasting – to a 5 course food and 2 wines per course matching dinner evening.

Wine Tasting Events
We have a tremendous line up at both Tokai and Noordhoek planned to end November so keep an eye on the web page for your favourite Wine estate tasting on a Friday evening and Saturday/Sunday noon - 2pm.

Wine Dinner with Man Vintners
Thursday evening 27th August Manuka Tokai is having the MAN Vintners range with supper. We have stocked this range as we are astounded at the great value that they offer. Situated in Paarl it is a joint venture between Charles Back and Joostenburg. Easy drinking wines should go with easy food so we will be doing another gourmet wood-fired pizza evening. Cost R99/head includes a salad for the table, various pizzas and coffee, including the seven or so wines for tasting. Bookings are a must call 021 701 2046 with either your credit card details or payment in advance.

Tokai Wine Festival 2009
This now famous annual event with on average 30 wine farms in attendance is well into its planning stages and scheduled for late November. Details available Sept/Oct.

Social responsibility
We have become very involved with our community particularly in the Constantia Valley, and are great supporters of Neighbourhood Watches, SAPS and our local Security Service Providers. Visit www.communitysafety.co.za and www.bkmwatch.org.za. Corporates are welcome to assist with any form of sponsorships – amazing how shark spotters and baboon monitors can get so much funding but saving people’s lives appears to be at the bottom of the order. Individuals – do you belong to your local NWatch, and Corporates/Business owners if you have ideas you would like to share please email info@communitysafety.co.za

Interesting Info
Feta Cheese - The most famous of Greek cheeses. Salty and sharp, Feta was originally made with either ewe's milk or a mixture of ewe's and goat's milk, but is now being mass-produced with primarily cow's milk, although recent trends have seen the return of goat's milk feta. The drained curd is cut and salted, washed and placed in barrels. The cheese is soaked in brine, and ripens for 15-30 days. The harder, crumbly version of Feta common in supermarkets is aged for up to 3 months.

Pecorino Cheese - An Italian ewe's milk cheese. Pecorino is hard-pressed with a yellow crust when mature. Percorino Romano is from Rome and is the best known cheese. Pecorino Sardo is from Sardinia and Pecorino Siciliano from Sicily. These cheeses are generally aged up to a year, and develop a brittle, hard texture and a yellowish rind. Pecorino has a strong, salty flavour and is used in the same way as Parmesan. Younger cheeses are softer and whiter.

Rice Wine/Vimegar - An essential ingredient in Chinese and Japanese cooking and other Oriental cuisines. This sweet wine is low in alcohol and is made by fermenting freshly steamed glutinous rice. Also known as mirin or sake, rice wine is used in sauces, marinades and glazes. Rice vinegar is made from rice wine and also used in oriental cooking.
