We recently accepted an invitation to an Estate Tour and lunch at Groot Constantia. What a stunning time we had. Although we live in the area it is some time since we have been there. It really is a magnificent estate, the oldest in South Africa, (established 1685) clearly visible by the interesting artifacts contained in the estate museums and heritage buildings. Sampling their range of some 15 wines was a mammoth task at 11 in the morning - but we managed. Although not a pronounced Shiraz fan myself, I must admit that I was bowled over by the Groot Constantia Gouverneurs Shiraz 2001 that retails at R130.00 a bottle.
