Congratulations to Groot Constantia
Groot Constantia's Gouverneur's Reserve 2005 won a gold medal at the Swiss International Wine Awards. This competition, judged by a select group of local and international wine buffs, forms part of the annual Good Food and Wine Show, ensuring the winning wines get a lot of exposure.
But the real biggie was the gold medal at the International Wine Challenge in London. Groot Constantia's Pinotage 2005 was one of only 12 South African wines to strike gold in this prestigious competition which attracts thousands of entrants from every wine-producing country imaginable. A total of 9 358 wines from 35 countries (are there so many wine countries!) were entered. Only 260 gold medals were awarded by the 400 judges.
"First I was thrilled, and then I was blown away," says Groot Constantia cellarmaster Boela Gerber. "It is always an honour to win a top medal whilst competing with the best wines in the world. I think it proves that our wonderful soil, climate and location are all really as good as we deem them to be, and that our minimalist wine-making techniques are the right way to go. But what was really great, was to be the only pinotage to win gold at the International Wine Challenge. It just goes to show how versatile our terroir is and how well our national grape varietal can perform when grown in cooler areas." Get that pinotage now, because it is going to sell-out fast!
In closing, Congratulations to Rendani & Lesley on the opening of their Manuka in Cedar Square, Fourways JHB.
